Often, not all tissue that is removed in surgery is needed for diagnostics and/or follow-up research. This residual tissue is usually destroyed. That is a pity, because human residual tissue offers great opportunities for scientific research to improve and accelerate drug development.

VitalTissue is an infrastructure that makes this fresh residual tissue accessible to researchers in the Netherlands for existing experimental models and the development of new models that better match human biology. As a consequence, progression in medical research will be accelerated and dependence on animal testing will be reduced.

VitalTissue is a division of Multi Tissue Center ETB-BISLIFE and works closely with TNO (Dutch Organisation for Applied Scientific Research), RIVM (National Institute for Public Health and the Environment), Amsterdam UMC, Wageningen University and Research, HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht, Mimetas, Chiron, Ombion and Isala Hospital.
